Thanks guys. I intend to post this on the NYiceracers google list, but first I am waiting for Eugene to reply to my request for his Dad's first name. He doesn't mention it in his email.

Re: 2007 A.M.E.C. Historic Ice Races! February 24th and 25th

I have just heard from Aaron Meisner, that two of his photos of RiK Rydant's Historic ice racing Saab 96 were published in the most recent issue of Classic Motorsports magazine.

Update on Historic ice racing as per this past Monday night's meeting:

It looks like A.M.E.C. will not be hosting a historic ice racing event for 2008. However, the President of Central New York Ice Racing, Tim O'Brien was at our meeting and is interested in possibly taking on the event with his club. That's all we know right now.

I was looking at the November issue of Classic Motorsports and saw these 2 pictures

I find it funny this Florida based Magazine says "We've had a great times at historic ice races". Maybe Aaron wrote the article.

Jeff, you are credited for the picture of the Volvo.

2008 Historic Ice Races?

This is the latest news regarding historic ice racing. I sent this out to my Historic Class email list last week.

Hello Historic Ice Racers,

At the last two consecutive A.M.E.C. monthly meetings, we have been discussing the prospect of holding a third Historic Ice Racing event this winter. Although I am very proud of the creation of this outstanding and unique event two years ago, and also with the second very successful follow up event last winter in Lake George, they both took a large amount of time and effort on my part, and for the club itself to carry out. Two months ago I expressed to the membership that I was not feeling the same inspiration and motivation that I had during the two previous seasons, to organize a third event this winter. At that juncture I figured perhaps someone else might take the over the reigns to keep it going. A discussion followed amongst the members at large at our monthly meetings and frankly I was a little surprised at the resulting feedback. It was agreed that after such a short ice racing season this past winter, the club simply wants to concentrate on our very busy regularly scheduled series races and not have to lose any seat time due to hosting any special events. These events would include our former "Studs on Ice" time trial days as well as the Historic Ice Races, which both meant more work for our loyal volunteer workers and less track time for the rest of the club's drivers.

But perhaps all is not lost read on,

In attendance at both of our recent club meetings was Tim O'Brien, the President of the Central New York Ice Racing Association. I asked Tim if his club would be interested in possibly taking over the event for the 2008 winter season. He discussed it with his club's officers and reported back to us that they are definitely interested and agreeable to trying to put something together. The target lake would be Waneta Lake, just northwest of Watkins Glen, NY. It just so happens that this year marks the 60th Anniversary of the very first road races held in scenic village of Watkins Glen. Nothing is set in stone at the moment, but the hope is that this event could be run on the ice of Waneta Lake, but I was informed that if mother nature fails them in Central New York, there is a possibility that a Historic winter road rally would take it's place, perhaps including traversing the original 6.6 mile Watkins Glen Grand Prix course as a backup plan. There are many other great attractions of that area including the Watkins Glen Motor Research Library in the village. This could be a fantastic weekend, but it is all in the early planning stages. I have offered to forward both of my Historic Ice Racers email lists to C.N.Y.I.R.A.'s Casey Creamer for use to keep you all informed of any and all developments concerning Historic Ice racing this winter. The website for the C.N.Y.I.R.A. is at: http://www.cnyira.com/ .

Best regards,

Michael Kamm

C.N.Y.I.R.A. Vintage Ice races to be held on March 1st, 2008

It has occurred to me that unless you are signed up for the Google Vintage Ice Racer's email list that event coordinator Casey Creamer created, you are totally unaware of the Vintage Ice Racing event planned for this year.

You can do so by scrolling down to the bottom of their web page here: http://www.cnyira.com/. and clicking on the sign up link.

I will start a new thread about the 2008 Vintage Ice Races, as this one is from last year's event.

The new thread is located HERE.

Re: 2007 A.M.E.C. Historic Ice Races! February 24th and 25th

I was contacted this week from a gentleman who is interested in running his '64 Beetle in a historic ice race. I don't currently have any plans to organize a 2009 event and I don't think Casey does either.

Would anyone like to step up and take it on for 2009? I'd like to actually get to drive in one for a change.

All it takes is a little inspiration. emoticon
