It was only a matter of time...

Back in '95 while I was working at Nemith Motors as a Nissan Tech, the all new '95 Nissan Sentras had just come out.
As I had just completed my new model training at the Nissan training center, I was asked to do the P.D.I. [pre delivery inspection] on the very first one that was about to be delivered.
I remember the car to this day. It was a green 200SX SE-R with a five speed. I remember taking one of the shop's white paper floor mats and writing "Future Ice Racer" on it, and placing it on the rear window of that SE-R.

....Little did I know at the time that I was right. This past season saw Brendan Norton's green 200SX SE-R in action on Lake George, in the SL class.

Welcome Brendan. emoticon

The time has come!

Wow,
It's amazing how things can change in 24 hrs. Just yesterday I said it won't be soon enough that we get a new WRX out to play with us in SL. Well our chances have just increased dramatically. Read on....

Some of you may know that Saab has just released the all new 2005 9-2X AWD turbo station wagon model in their lineup [a.k.a. as a WRX wagon]. Darryl Carl is currently driving one as his demo, and brought it to the July monthly A.M.E.C. meeting. After the meeting had concluded, he threw me the keys and let me take it out for a spin. One word: AWESOME! emoticon

Well, I told him that the car would most likely be too heavy to make the 3,200 lb. SL and SLU weight limit. I made that assumption after reading in Sport Compact Car magazine that the WRX wagons weight a tick over 3,200 lbs. The only logical conclusion would be that the Saab version would be even heavier, with the added luxury appointments and trim.

Well, just to keep the guesswork out of it, I weighed Darryl's demo personally, and the car surprisingly weighs only 3,120 lbs. The smile on Daryl's face told the story. Although I don't think he plans to run the full slate of SL races this season, I think you can count on seeing this car on some fresh winter tires at some point in 2005. What better way to advertise, right Mr. Excitement?Image

thanks for the welcome.
i'm a little surprised that toyotas are not more prevalent at your races. i would have thought there'd be plenty. well it's been a cool summer so far, maybe winter will come early [lol]. guess i'm gonna get a hold of one of mike's sl videos to see what it's all about.

Welcome to the boards Bernie,

I am very excited you found us. Those GTS's are awesome cars. The SLU class will be excited to have you join us. emoticon

The ice will be back sooner than we all know. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. I'm sure this year's SL video will build your enthusiasm just a tad. emoticon

Cheers,
Mike

Bernie [ToyotaMan],

How's that GTS? Are you getting ready for the most fun you have ever had with your car? Image

Got any pics?

Bernie;
For your fire extinguisher, make a bracket to bolt to the seat brackets where it bolts to the floor. Mine only took a flat piece of metal, drilled some holes, bolted the extinguisher bracket to it. Put by the pasenger seat.
