Working towards new members

I got a call from #10SL racer Mark Teetor today and he mentioned that he is working on a neighbor of his with an open wheeled dirt modified [or was it a Sprint car?] to come out and go ice racing with us this winter.

Nice job Mark! This is what we A.M.E.C. members need to do all year round. It was mentioned at a monthly meeting a few years ago that if we could get everyone who races to simply bring in one person new every year, think of the car counts we would have!

I too sent a message to a Nissanforums member from Albany today. I sent him some pics of A.M.E.C. ice racing and wrote up a short informational for him. Hopefully I can lure him out, just like I did with another Albany resident three years ago......... this year's SL champ Phil LePore!

I've been at a few Solo II comps. this year (just this past weekend). A lot of interest came from VW and Honda runners. Hopefully they take to the cold. emoticon

I just sold my used Blizzaks to a new iceracer, Rayl Zubal, who will be running in the USL or is it SLU class. He has a Plymouth Colt. Said he saw the races at Lake George and got hooked.

Great news! Thanks Amanda and Dick. The fellow from Saratoga I mentioned contacting a couple days ago just emailed me and plans to make Monday night's meeting! Keep up the great work!

Speaking of Lake George, here is a pic I took there this past winter.
Image
It is of my son Mark standing in front of Sandra Reulet's '04 WRX. As some of you know, I got to drive this car with studded Hakka 2's on the track on Sat. night. Wow! What a machine. Sandra, could I rent your car for just one race this season? Please, pretty please? Image
I know what your thinking: Image

More good news! I just received an email from Constantine Mantopoulas. You all should remember the Audi 90 pro rally car that took FTD at our 2004 Studs on Ice trial event by 10 full seconds right?

Well, Costantine stayed overnight to see our regular racing program the day after the Studs on Ice event and liked what he saw. He informed me today that he is building another car specifically for a Menard class, and be racing with us in 2005.

The Studs on Ice events are alot of work for the club, but they do provide excellent exposure for us and do produce new racers every year. Other names that came as a direct result of the Ice Trials are Robin Wilkins [#54 SL] Brendan Norton [#8 SL] Carol Blacker [#65 SL] Andrew George [#58 SL] Bob Trachy [#35 SL] and Ken Reilly [#99 Open] to name a few.

Ok, it seems I've finally figured out how to register for this board. It's a bit different in that you think you are registering for something else. Or maybe it's just me and I'm not paying attention to what I'm doing.

First off, thanks much Mike for posting that neat picture of the NX2000 at Lake George. That was a fun weekend.

No question about it, you reeled me into one of the best kept secrets in motorsport - ice racing!

And like you and others, I've been spreading the word. I think I have two potential drivers coming for at least a couple of races: Dave from Connecticut with an NX2000. He ran the ice TT a couple years ago. And Dan from Staten Island. You met him at the meeting the other night. He plans to run a Stanza that he said has the factory viscous differential.

I'm also excited about the new SLU class (unstudded) and the potential it offers for close competition and no worries about stud loss.

Hopefully the idea of being able to race and have a chance of winning in SLU because the tires are so even, will help to attract new members, as well.

Phil LePore #17SLU (going unstudded in 2005!)

Phil, I had the same problem at first getting signed up. Once I figured it was a different board, everything wen't easy.

I have talked to several people about ice racing, haven't got anyone to say they will race, but that they will come to the races and see what it's all about.

Glad to see you are going unstudded. Now I will have someone to race with besides Ed Tucker. I'm sure the choice of tire will depend on whether we get a tire sponser. Keep working on that. Let me know if I can help.

Hi, Speaking of new members I get a weekly e mail newsletter from Greg Rickes (the voice of Limerock) and heres a small excerpt from the last e mail this week. Some of the guys from Keeler Motor Car might be joining us this winter. The paragraph is about a couple of guys that ran Limerock recently.
Dave Burnham

"So how and why did JW end up in SSB ? Kids and college are now behind him.
Jon's always maintained a connection to the motor trade; he's now General
Manager for Keeler Motor Group. A supercharged Mini found it was back to
the dealership after an unplanned encounter with a landscape pond. Written
off by the insurance company the car couldn't be retailed, and was too
complete to be used for parts, so what better fate than to add those very
few tweaks needed for Showroom Stock racing. The smile was wide after the
race as Jon snatched second place on the last lap. Though the Keeler
dealership has rarely had much direct involvement with SCCA racing Jon
says there's lots of enthusiasm among the techs, and some of them may get
steered towards AMEC's ice racing program as an entre' to the sport"

Sounds great Dave.

Great news, two more new racers coming this season. I've been in contact with two brothers from southern NY that want to come out and run the new SLU class with us this year. They said they saw an ICERACE.COM bumper sticker on someone's car at Lime Rock a few weeks ago. Image

They looked us up, checked out the new SL page and sent me an email. The welcome mat is out fellas. emoticon
