Track of Champions

It's Sat. night and for once I don't have to go to work and there is no farm work to do so I packed up my youngest daughter Allison and went to Fonda Speedway to watch Matt in action. I only live 10 miles from the track and haven't been to a race in 20 years. The first thing I noticed was how soft the suspension is on the modifieds. I can't believe how much they pitch and roll in the corners. Matt did not qualify very well and started near the back. When the green flag flew Matt started picking them off one at a time. Unfortunatly for Matt no yellows to let him catch up with the leaders but he worked his way up the about sixth.

You have to get down in a corner to appreciate the cars and drivers, When they hit the gas on these cars they rocket off the corners like they are on rails. Matt's car would lift the entire front end in the air off the 1st turn if he got wide in the rough stuff. Great show Matt.

Hi Bryon, Sounds like your doing your homework checking out the open wheelers. Great observations the same stuff applies on the ice, if we could only get hooked up as good as the modifieds do that would be something. We go to watch Matt a couple of times a year too. Its neat to see why its so tough to beat him he races every week all year round! It looks like Darryl and Claude might be in the same boat soon too, racing every week. "A" class is going to be tough in 2005. I cant wait!
