SL/SL4 Unstudded Tires?

Despite previous idea of running SLM (due to lack of tow vehicle), I'm thinking of running SL or SL4 for more reliable car (as dictated by tire fit) and bigger field/action.

Read 2019 AMEC rules, including sections 3.1.4.2 and 3.1.4.3. Are re-treaded and/or re-molded DOT-legal tires allowed in SL?

Also, has anyone successfully run anything other than Bridgestone Blizzak? How about Michelin X-Ice?

We experimented with re-molded tires, I forget the name, several years ago.
You can use any winter tire that has the mtn. snow flake triangle.
Up until now the Blizzak has proven superior.

Does either Green Diamond (re-molded) or Major Racing (re-tread) ring a bell? I found this Swiss test (although they're also made in USA per site) http://green-diamond-tire.com/testresults.html but don't see a test date or the particular model of Blizzak tested. If any WS-series, the test results do look promising for Green Diamond. Unfortunately, they're out of stock in my ideal sizes.

EDIT: For anyone reading this post, I think Green Diamond North America may be out of business despite their website still accepting orders for Icelander tires in oddball sizes. Either way, I highly recommend speaking with someone there (or at their overseas branch) before ordering. My email to their USA contact bounced.

Pretty sure it was Towel City.
I wonder if Mike Kamm still has the test tires ?

Ah, that would have been my next guess. emoticon Thanks, I'll try to ask Mike.

Re: SL/SL4 Unstudded Tires?

I ran Green Diamond 12-13 years ago, they seemed promising with the flakes of carbide (or something similar) they injected into the tread. As you found out I'm pretty sure they're out of the US market, my last set had a failure within a few miles and they had no stock to replace the tire.

There are a couple companies that make super soft custom ice racing tires. Mike Kamm used Towel City tires back in 2010 and at the end of the heat race walked past my WRX on Blizzaks as I struggled for grip. http://bamecmessageboard.runboard.com/t28719,offset=30#post299111

There's also a place in Stratford CT that I spoke to in 2010, their website is still up: http://www.themajortirecompany.com/ice_racing

I lost interest when we went created the street studded class, but would love to see someone out on these tires.

I tested those TC tires in the second heat and then my Blizzaks in the third.
I felt that the TC's had somewhat better grip.
Not sure what happened . No one, to my knowledge use them.

Maybe they required a quantity order.
