360 in-car videos from Lake George

Figured I'd share in case anyone cares to see. These are the three SL4 heats. It's 360 video, so click and drag to look around.

Highlights of all three:

Heat 1:

Heat 2:

Heat 3:

Cool videos, Tim. What camera are you using?

Thanks! This is the Samsung Gear 360. It's pretty basic as far as 360 cameras go, and the editing software isn't great, but it's nice and easy to use.

I would love to record 360 video in our endurance racing car. Currently using a GoPro powered by the car's electrical system so it runs all day, and switching memory cards at pit stops when needed. I haven't found a 360 camera yet that can run non-stop around the clock (really important for 24-hour races).

Also looking at systems to hoist video to the web live via a MiFi hotspot.

I've not tested it but I believe the cam can record while charging. It can also stream through Samsung's app, but given the overall quality of the other pieces of software I wouldn't put a lot of faith into that holding up for 24 hours...

Re: 360 in-car videos from Lake George

I picked up an LG 360 camera (cheap - $65 on Amazon, and some of the reviews I saw sounded like it could run like a GoPro and keep recording as long as you have memory available and power is on).

So far I haven't gotten it to run continuously. It will record 20 minutes and then shut off, even if the camera is plugged in to power. If you power it up again and hit record it will continue for another 20 minutes and then do the same thing.

So, good for an ice race, but not so much for endurance racing. I might try pulling this one apart to see if I can hack it and set up an Arduino to restart it every 20 minutes.

It takes a while for the LG viewer software to render the video so it can be viewed properly, but it does look decent after that is done. I have not tried the LG app on a phone yet.
