Re: Street Legal Hakkapeliitta Studded Tire Discussion Thread

Just chiming in to say that I'll be running on 9s this year. It's a really interesting stud pattern, with different shaped studs on the edges than in the center of the rubber. Whether that'll combat stud loss I don't know, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

Sadly I'll miss the first couple events this season thanks to travel, but I'll be out there eventually.

Almost all of my experience seems to contradict earlier posts. Just putting this out there (all facts) for people to chew on

Hakka 9 in 265 width. I just bought them for the back of the BMW. So 9's in narrow widths might be an issue? Not sure how to read the earlier post, you can get them really wide if you want to try the experiment.

Loosing studs because the car is heavy and powerful. My 7's have all of their studs and three + seasons. They have never been on asphalt. The were never heated or baked. Ice use only. V8 rear wheel drive almost non stop wheelspin once pointed and full ABS braking at the end of the straights. Car is not light

So stud loss should have been an issue since I did NO break in pocedure, but the opposite occurred.

See all of you next weekend if all goes well

Steve

FWIW I was advised by the Nokian Hakka 8/9 designers that, despite running on nearly-clean ice, a narrow tire was still preferable.

They didn't mention anything about break-in being required.

YMMV.
