Places to drive fast this summer

Hi all,
I am spreading the word about some summer driving events that you can try and some that I am definitely going to this year. First up are some track days.

I am signed up for a track day at the NY Safety Track in Harpersfield, NY, the track is only about 40 minutes from my house in Delanson and not far from Cobleskill. This is being put on by NECC Motorsports. Many AMEC members have run with NECC in the past. I have been going to their events since 1999. They are a great group and you get almost unlimited track time plus a time trial in the afternoon.

This summer NECC has the NY Safety track all to themselves so we don't have to share it with the motorcycles.

The NY Safety track is 2.1 miles long with 18 turns and 450 feet of elevation change it will really keep your attention.

The date is Friday June 23rd. You can find out all about it here:

http://www.corvair.org/chapters/necc/index.html

NECC is also working on a Track day at Pocono for July and that’s always a fun time too.

I also often go to track days put on by the Connecticut Autocross and Rally Team (C.A.R.T.) They run a similar event like NECC does with a lot of track time during the day plus a time trail in the afternoon. I think I am going to run with them on May 6th at Thompson Speedway. They are also doing the Pocono South course on September 2nd.

For info or to register for the C.A.R.T. track days go to the link below and use the Track Day drop down box.

http://www.cartct.com/

You don't need a race car to run with NECC or C.A.R.T. any safe road worthy car is fine to use. We have gone to these events and seen all kinds of cars everything from Yugo’s and Chevy Chevettes to full on Indy race cars. It’s not often you get to be out on a real race track with such an unusual group of cars and people. The vast majority of the cars are just every day drive to work cars so don’t be worried if your car won’t be “fast enough” that’s not the point the point is to get out on a real race track and drive

If Track days are not your thing there are a lot of autocrosses to go to. The dates for AMEC/Tri Vettes, Mo Hud SCCA, and the Sports Car Club of Vermont are below.

April 29 Mo Hud in Albany (Test and Tune)
April 30 Mo Hud in Albany and SCCV in Rutland VT

May 28 SCCV in Rutland VT

June 4 Mo Hud SCCA in Albany

June 10 AMEC/Tri Vettes at the Edinburgh Go Kart Track
June 11 AMEC/Tri Vettes at the Edinburgh Go Kart Track

June 24 Mo Hud SCCA (Test and Tune in Albany) and SCCV in Rutland
June 25 Mo Hud SCCA in Albany

July 23 Mo Hud in Albany and SCCV in Rutland VT

August 13 Mo Hud in Albany and SCCV in Rutland VT

August 27 Mo Hud in Albany

September 2 SCCV in Rutland VT

October 1 Mo Hud in Albany and SCCV in Rutland VT

C.A.R.T also does a full slate of autocrosses in CT and if your more south the Poughkeepsie Sports Car Club does a lot of Autocrosses in that area.

So look for something going on in your area and get out and do something fast in your car!

If you have any questions feel free to call or e mail me.

I hope to see you out on a track somewhere!

Thanks Dave. I was going to do something like this for the Facebook page. This saves me the trouble. emoticon
I just shared the Tri-Vettes so I'll wait a bit to share this.
I wish my BRZ wasn't still in pieces. Team Relay and Thompson baby!!! Man that was fun at Pocono that one year I went
