Tupper Lake 2017

AMEC NEWS 1-24-2017

Got ice?

[sign in to see URL] have all chosen to ice race in the winter and along with the challenges of learning to drive and race well on ice are the challenges of mother nature. In our efforts to have safe fun races many AMEC members spend lots of hours driving to and from the lakes poking countless holes in the ice. Then we try to predict if the ice will safe and race able days in the future.

So what's the deal for this weekend? I made the 8 hour round trip to Tupper Lake today to check the ice and there is enough ice there to race 13" to 14" there is a little snow maybe 2" to 3" plus maybe 1/2" of slush under the snow in some places. Looking at the forecast we think it will probably be good for racing this weekend.

So here is the plan: Some of us with plows will be leaving at 8 AM on Friday morning heading back to Tupper Lake to see if we can plow a track. We will then get the word out as fast as we can if the race is on or not. We should have a definitive answer by about 2 PM on Friday afternoon.

If it's good:

We will be racing at the Tupper Lake Municipal Park, 17-19 Demars Blvd Tupper Lake NY 12986. Our pit area is on land, right next to the heated bathrooms and across the street from Jreck Subs and MacDonald's. There's a NAPA and a CARQUEST within walking distance that should be open on Saturday.

Registration will be held at the same place we have been using for years the Tupper Lake Public Works building on Route 49 (McLaughlin Ave). It's only a mile or two from the lake. Registration will open at 8:30 and close at 9:30.

We are working on a Saturday night get together and details of that will come later after we lock in the weekends racing. Saturday night is always a fun time recapping the day's races and speculating on Sunday's.

If you want to make a hotel reservation many of us have been staying for years at Shaheens Motel. I spoke with the owners today and they will let us make reservations and cancel Friday afternoon. They understand what we are up against with the weather and are happy we will be coming. There are some other motel options below also.

Shaheen's Motel
314 Park St (route 30)

Sunset Park Motel

Try to use the MotorsportReg for signing up if you can and if we get canceled you will either get a refund or get a credit towards the next race. If you use MotorsportsReg we will get through Registration a lot faster this weekend with our new plan for streamlining it. Also, if you didn't race the first weekend we grid in the order people register so don't delay especially when you get a refund if you don't race.

Here is a map I made of the Tupper Lake Area a few years ago.

Map of Tupper Lake

The "Maps to Lakes" Link at the top of the page shows the entrance to the Lake and the Registration location.

Thanks for positing those links Mark they are very helpful.

Remember everyone we will let you all know how the lake is by around 2 PM Friday. So don't head out until you know if its race able or not. The weekend looks cold which is great.
