Re: AMEC Economy Run IV - November 1st, 2009 + Go-Karts

Underhood air flow on a 93 was adjustable.
And it needed it, with the radiator behind the engine and no water pump.
The "window shade" was also used in cold weather to to reduce the air flow and in the fender wells were two air outlets which were closed off with "pie plates" in cold weather.
Just a little 2 cycle SAAB trivia.

Thanks for that Richard. emoticon

I just got an e mail from Jeff Dungen with the Toyota Levin. The 20 valve engine in his Levin is actually only a 1.6, not a 2.0!

I saw the "20" on his fender and thought it meant 2.0 liter.

Wow, 170 h.p. and 50 mpg is really awesome.

One more thing about Jeff Dungen:

He is the VP of Sports Motor Car Club Montreal which has been doing rallies since 1937. They usually put on about 10 TSD/navigation rallies per year. In the past, the club has held economy runs, but he thinks that was more than a decade ago now. He's hoping that they can revive that tradition and attract some interesting participants.

Thanks for that Mike. I'll be sure to contact Jeff and offer some help. I've been wanting to hold an economy run up here for a while.

You're welcome Martin. Let's hope that our events have sparked some enthusiasm for [sign in to see URL]. to start holding economy events again. I'd love to go to Montreal area for an economy run in the future.

Also, Jeff has uploaded his tremendous photos of his trip this past weekend onto his web site. Along with his very well written text, it is a must see!

The link to the whole "experience" is HERE. emoticon

It's an elevation map for the new route I put together for Economy Run IV. It wasn't as flat as I thought!

Green Grand Prix coming up on May 8th, 2010

This just in from Bob Gillespie, the Chairman of the Green Grand Prix Committee in Watkins Glen.

Hi Mike,

The Green Grand Prix Committee is busy insuring that our 2010 event will be the best in our five year history.

This message will be brief and to the point. I want to send out the basic information for you.

We look forward to having you and the other [sign in to see URL]. Economy Run drivers here for this year's 2010 Green Grand Prix.

When: Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Where: Watkins Glen NY

What: Your choice of entering a full SCCA Road Rally OR a Fuel Economy Competition THEN an educational display in the afternoon along with featured speakers.

Schedule: quite similar to last year's event, but with improvements to insure a smoother running day.

Since Education is a major focus for us, this year we will have student video crews who will conduct short interviews of competitors of their own choice , then show their videos later to their respective school populations. In this way, we are empowering young people to become involved with publicizing environmentally friendly transportation.

I hope you all can be a part of this event, which we are proud to say is still the only one of it's kind in the Nation!

Registrations are now being accepted at [sign in to see URL]

Sincerely,

Bob Gillespie
Chairman, Green Grand Prix Committee IMRRC
