Sam Barlow from the Northeast Stock Car Old Timers club contacted me tonight to let me know about their winter party coming up next month.

When: Sunday, February 27th.

What: Mid winter party for all people interested in early stock car racing.

Where: Klamsteam Tavern & Marina - 32 Clamsteam Road, Clifton Park, NY 12065. (518) 373-9409

For just $15 lunch includes:

Sausage and Peppers
Pizza
Mac and cheese
Chile
Beer-Soda etc.

Side note: Sam ice raced with us in '84 in a V-4 powered Saab 96. He said he was trying to stay with a yellow Citroen back then on Warner's Lake. At the end of a long straight he flew off the track, through a snowbank and onto his roof.

Vintage Nazareth Speedway

Nazareth Speedway was gritty but always exciting auto racing, and known as "HOUSE OF POWER" produced most of those years by Jerry Fried. Old Speedways has produced this exciting DVD to take a look back at the speedway and the many legendary drivers who carved out their star status racing in Nazareth Pa. Some of the greatest drivers from the Northeast made this track their home including Frankie Schneider, Will Cagle, Buzzie Reutiman, Rags Carter, Al Tasnady, Freddy Adam, Budd Olsen and Bobby Bottcher among them.@
This DVD covers Modifieds, Limited Sportsman, Sprint Cars, AMA Motorcycles from 1964-69. Much of the footage shows weekly racing with some special events and through many different camera angles showing the layout of the speedway.
In 1966, the larger 1 and 1/8th mile Nazareth International Speedway opened alongside of the 1/2 mile layout and played host to many special event races including the famous All-Star League. In this section, the footage covers the very first race and some 1968-69 events.
In 1988 the very last race was held at the speedway and highlights from the huge 300 car enduro event are captured here. Also at the very end is a special section of the DVD that captures a look at the grounds and the final walk out of the gates for the very last time.
The speedway is but a memory but this DVD will take you back to be a part of the glory days that Nazareth once was.
Run Time 1 hr. 35 mins.

I took this picture on July 15, 2008 at the first annual Vintage Race Car Show at OKenny's Express on Rt.9 in Valatie.

"Very sad news for the entire racing community. Dan and Bob Miller were very good friends and their efforts of finding alot of the LOST SPEEDWAYS in New York was a love the two of them enjoyed immensely and we the race fans reaped the benefits of their labor of love."

I met Dan in at Albany Saratoga Speedway during the Hangover 100. He won the RWD endure race in this 472 c.i. Caddy.

The historic stock car racing community has just suffered a huge loss.

Rest in Peace my friend.

He was a good guy I enjoyed talking with him about the "old days" he even collected ice racing videos when he found it. He was too young to go.
