Re: Results for THE DASH
Thanks for formatting the results Mark.
I didn't notice before that Art mayhew ran 96 mph with his diesel Jetta. And Marek's WRX was on the list after all, if only for one run. Wonder why it was only 62 mph? Maybe he had second thoughts and doesn't want anyone to know how fast the car really is? I'll bet he could have been fastest.
Klim: I never noticed the course going slightly right at the end. I had to look in the video to see it. You're right, that was fun!

Re: Results for THE DASH
Mike,
I think he was scared. I know I was feathering it around the point before dropping the hammer.....waiting for the rev limiter then hitting fourth and then dancing to the club truck. I wish Jon Bronk could have been there. The power of his car would have embarassed the Menards and the blue SL and turbo crew!!!!! I would put many dollars on that!!

You're probably right Ivan, and I hope we can do it again and find out this Sunday. I am so looking forward to it.

Re: Results for THE DASH
I hope we can do it again I made some changes to the 48 SMO car and it should go faster. The only way to know for sure is a true flat out high speed run again.
I have a theory why my car stopped pulling at 5200 RPM at 100 MPH and this should verify it one way or another. It may not be because my car is a brick. It actually has less frontal area than a lot of the cars so it should have gone faster.

Re: Results for THE DASH
Open wheel cars have enormous drag from all of that exposed stuff.
The Cd ( coefficient of drag) of a road car would run somewhere around 0.30 while an Indy type car will be 0.9 or more.
Motorcycles with very little FA (frontal area) with out fairings will be 0.9.
All of this info I took from a book on Aeodynamics.
I also slept at Holiday Express.
It will be interesting to see the aero changes Dave has made.

Re: Results for THE DASH
I can tell you what I have in mind (It’s all ready done). On the second run when the car stopped pulling at 5200 RPM I thought that was weird it pulls pretty good in third gear why not in 4th? At the same time it wouldn't pull any more the mixture meter was pegged on full rich. I thought about it all the way home and I think the reason is my air filter and little E ram super charger are on backwards looking at the car from the side. I think when I get up to about 100 what is happening is the air is actually getting sucked out of the engine and the e ram cannot over come the vacuum pull on the air filter. There are only a couple of reasons for max richness, too much fuel or too little air and I think its too little air.
So I set up a ram air deal that will force air into the air filter and e ram at speed. It was probably dumb to mount the thing backwards like that but I had my reasons one of which is if its mounted forwards following RWD SMO cars the whole front of my car gets plugged with ice chips and the air filter would be plugged a lot of the time so I put it out the other way.
This is all just a guess and it all could be from the dirty air drag an open wheel car has as suggested by **** Vedder. But I think the car should not stop pulling like that because it pulled hard up to that point and then stopped like a switch was turned off such as the air.
It will be neat to see if I am correct

Re: Results for THE DASH
Very interesting Dave!
I think the Menard cars will have a better showing this time around.
Regarding Jon's MX6, it not only has good power [165 hp before his free flow exhaust etc.], it's also got a low 0.31 coefficient of drag.
I've got some aero stuff I will try on my SE-R.

Re: Results for THE DASH
Dave, is it possible that the "e-Ram" supercgarger is restricting air flow at high rpm ? Your thoughts on air flow seem valid.
A ram air system becomes more effective the higher the speed.
What rpm do you usually turn ?
A thought, since there is nothing but open air in front, run it without the filter and e-ram.
Mike, for that short run, you could block off the entire grille, remove the air filter.
A lot of Eco sruff could work.
My Fiesta has a Cd of 0.25

Re: Results for THE DASH
Hi ****,
My engine will run up to 8000 RPM easily in 3rd gear. We usually never go fast enough for me to get into 4th at least for long. I usually try to keep the RPM limit below 7000. So not being able to go above 5200 was just wierd.
